Jacksonville School District 117 recently welcomed a new Chief Financial Officer, Jamie Hadjan, on July 1, 2014. With a background in banking, school administration, and public accounting, she makes a great fit for the district’s needs and is an interesting addition to the community.

Originally from Staunton, Illinois, (just off southbound Interstate 55) Hadjan previously worked for a year at East St. Louis School District #189 and Staunton CUSD #6 for 10 years. And while she’s spent many years dedicated to the financial aspects of education systems, her favorite part of working in schools is being involved with the lives of children. “Even though I am not at the schools on a daily basis, what I do is all geared at providing the best educational opportunities for the students of our District,” she said.

There are challenges that come with her work, too. She explained that there are many challenges that school districts face, but that as the CFO, her main concerns are from a fiscal perspective. Balancing what the district receives in revenues against ongoing increased costs can sometimes be difficult. She also has to be mindful of the condition of our facilities as well as our transportation fleet—harmonizing many different areas all at the same time.

When she’s not at work, Hadjan is an avid walker, typically getting 15-20 miles under her belt each week. Her daughter is getting married in mid October, so she’s been working over the past year and a half to help get everything in order for the big day. She also completed her Masters Degree in School Business (while working full-time, no less) and always attended her kids’ sporting games at Staunton High School and McKendree University.

So far, the Hadjan family feels right at home in Jacksonville. In fact, they’re not completely new to the area. Hajdan’s father’s side of the family is from Jacksonville and Franklin. Her father’s name was James T. “Red” Williamson and her Grandparents were Thomas & Alma (Rolston) Williamson.  Both her Grandpa and Dad were funeral directors owning Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton & Worden, IL since 1951.

This addition to JSD 117 is a great one. I’m sure it’s been a whirlwind of meeting new people and learning the ins and outs of the new role, but she’s handled it with grace. We’re glad you’re here, Jamie!
