It all began with the Passavant Auxiliary, which was founded in 1896. The goal of the organization was threefold: to purchase necessary items for the hospital, to provide scholarship funds for employees looking to further their medical education, to offer outreach and promote community education.
For many years they did just that, being a large part of the community with their many events. But like many things, this event suffered from the COVID-19 Pandemic.
COVID-19 restriction and other pandemic fall out has stopped large gatherings at the local hospital. And while for many, this beloved event was the precursor to the holiday season.
Finally, in the fall they hit their post pandemic stride with a fall fling and a gas and grocery raffle. The beloved Breakfast with Santa was held at Hamilton’s, on Saturday, December 3, filled with joy and fun for over 60 community children.
Guests had the opportunity to share breakfast, make Reindeer Food and play games. The event also hosted Santa, as he provided a treat bag to each of the kids in attendance after reading them a story.
This event wouldn’t be possible without the support of the Auxiliary volunteers and donors. According to the Volunteer Service Coordinator, Gigi Patterson, the Auxiliary now has over 600 members—and is open to anyone who wants to join. Lifetime membership is $150, or annual membership is $10/year. To join, fill out an application form at the gift shop.
